What Your Group Wants -- Plan for New Constitution

  • End of slave trade
  • Banning of slavery in all new states
  • Progressive abolition of slavery, for our economy's sake

Bullet Points of Your Plan

  • Enforce that slavery is morally wrong and God will punish
  • We know what it is like to be treated as inferiors so why treat slaves the same way?
  • Thomas Jefferson said "All men are created equal"
  • Indentured servants rebelled in Bacon's Rebellion; how do we know slaves won't do the same?

Orator: Text of Your Speech

Gentlemen, let us not forget what the principles of this country we're founded upon. As Thomas Jefferson so eloquently described in the great Declaration of Independence: “all men are created equal.” So tell me, why is it that fifteen years later, we still have slaves within the borders of this fine country? If we say that all men are created equal, then why do we have men on their knees fearing the lashes of their owners? This is what I have come to present to you. As a member of the Crispus Attucks Coalition, I come to you
with the intent of a plan for eventually ridding country of slavery. Black men are men indeed, and it is time that we start treating them so. How can men, fully equipped with a heart and a soul, be sold and exploited like cattle? The slaves are men with just as much potential as you and I. The potential of these slaves has already been proven by the runaway slave Crispus Attucks. In the early founding stages of our nation, this hero was peacefully protesting and was gunned down by the bloody lobster backs. This man was a negro; yes, a negro. He showed us that either black or white, we are all the same. This American hero died for our country, and in his name, slavery must end. To have the first hero of the revolution’s race be enslaved by the country that he died to create, would be a monstrosity of a dishonor to his memory. This country: started by black men, built by black men, and maintained by black men, needs to, for once, consider black men. From the start of our nation, they have played a key role in its creation and deserve their freedom.

We, of the Crispus Attucks Coalition, understand the need for their labor in this country, so we do not wish for the immediate abolition of slavery; but a gentle weaning from it. A rapid stop of slave labor would be a huge detriment to our nation’s economy, so we have devised plans in order to slowly move away from it. First of all, the slave trade must immediately be halted. Abducting Africans in order to strip them of their natural rights and sell them as property is a horrendous act and needs to be stopped immediately. Next, in all newly founded states, slavery is to be prohibited. Never in the northwest shall slavery exist. And finally, slavery must be eventually abolished in all regions of the realm. We cannot expect the southern plantation owner just to instantly change their way of life, but to ease off of it is possible and necessary. The black population needs to be seen as whole men, not somewhere between property and partial man, which brings me to the point of the three-fifths rule. You sir, if you were to lose a testicle, would you consider yourself half of a man? Of course not! Such an outrage would be preposterous! Calling men anything less than men is an abomination and should not exist. Black men are complete and utter men, exactly the same as white men, and should be treated so.

Gentlemen, I am not asking for you to put the blacks on a pedestal, but to hoist them up to ground level so they can stand with us rather than kneel. Slaves are still men and it’s time that we start treating them like it. If we continue the atrocity that is slavery, we are failing our fellow patriot Crispus Attucks and he shall die in vain. Let’s not forget the American hero who gave his life to create a free country for you and I. Come on bros, help the Negroes!

Why Our Plan is Good:

  • It will create freedom for all American peoples and eliminate hypocrisy
  • More will get done because black workers will be more happy and healthy
  • It will increase the number of jobs and thereby benefit our economy
  • God will look better upon us

Print Journalist: Write Up of Convention Activity

- Philadelphia 1787

Tensions flared today at the Continental Congress as delegates from various states gathered in Philadelphia to revise the Articles of Confederation and to better our country. Five plans were presented during this Continental Congress including the Virginia Plan, the New Jersey Plan, the Great Compromise, the Dixiecrat Bloc, and last but definitely not least, the Crispus Attucks Coalition.
Out of the "well fed, well bred, and well wed" delegates, James Madison of the Virginia Plan was first to launch his ideas to improve our country. Madison stated the importance of the larger states having more political power as a result of their superior size. Instead of acting separately, the states should "act as one" and "unify." Not only did Madison believe those from New Jersey did not appreciate them; they believed them to be stripping Virginia of their rights. William Patterson of the New Jersey Plan then stepped up to present his plan. Patterson suggested that we stand together; united. "Small states have small plans," exclaimed Patterson. However, unlike the Virginia Plan, the New Jersey Plan didn't plan to include equality for everyone. The New Jersey Plan presented their ideas to be fair when in reality, they weren't. Giving the smaller states the same votes as the large would give the smaller states an advantage by having essentially more power.

A spokesperson for the Great Compromise, then came up to voice his opinion and to have the Virginia and the New Jersey Plan finally become concord. He claims that the Virginia Plan is insufficient and asks, "Are we going to let our citizens down who want nothing but to be equal and thrive?" Wasn't it the Virginia Plan that wanted equality for all?

The argument between the delegates of the Crispus Attucks Coalition and the Dixiecrat Bloc was a humiliating blow for the less favored group. The representatives of the Crispus Attucks Coalition never ceased to present glorious ideas on equality while the Dixiecrat Bloc explained their "need" for slavery as they "couldn't function without them." These pathetic delegates were ignorant enough to believe that "black slaves don't have the same mental capacity as white men," then when proved otherwise tried to cover up their statement by saying "black men aren't stupid." If black slaves aren't stupid, why would they have a smaller mental capacity than ignorant white men like you? The crowd continued to boo at the Dixiecrat's while they dissed the Crispus Attucks coalition. "Creating equality for slaves? We might as well call our country New Africa!" When representatives of Crispus Attucks argued the horrible treatment of the slaves by their plantation owners, the Dixiecrat representatives denied it. They asserted that plantation owners treat their slaves like sons and denied the fact that these owners also rape their slaves. If they treat their slaves like their sons, why would they have horrible scars from beatings and whippings? If these horrid slave owners don't rape their slaves, why do mulatto(half black/half white) babies exist?

In all, the Dixiecrat Bloc left a humiliating impression at the Continental Congress. The Crispus Attucks Coalition made strong points that were vital in creating an equal nation. "As Thomas Jefferson so eloquently described in the great Declaration of Independence: 'all men are created equal.' So tell me, why is it that fifteen years later, we still have slaves within the borders of this fine country?" This eye-opening question by a Crispus Attucks representative led to immense cheering from those at the a Continental Congress and a shameful impact on those from the Dixiecrat Blocs. To be frank, the Crispus Attucks Coalition is the right plan to follow for the success of our country.
